WHY I'M RUNNING
I am running for the Madison Metro School Board, Seat 5, because I am deeply committed to this community and our public school system. I’m running to ensure that our schools and our District exceed expectations for all students. We are at a critical phase in our District. We currently are facing staff burn-out, teacher and other critical staff shortages. We have seen enrollment decline, we have a newer administration that is establishing a strategic direction and the lasting impact of COVID-19 has created more needs for us to meet. I want to make sure that our public schools remain the strongest and best option for all of our students and families. I want our staff to feel supported to do one of the most important jobs in our country. I want our students to discover the best in themselves and in their education.
I believe the Madison community deserves a School Board member who understands the district from the inside out.
COUNT ON ME TO BE A STRONG VOICE FOR THE COMMUNITY
As a mother of four graduates of MMSD, I spent over two decades in MMSD as a parent.
I worked for MMSD as a senior administrator for six years under three Superintendents (Cheatham 4 years, Belmore 1 year, Jenkins 1 year).
During my time at MMSD I attended all Board meetings, work group meetings and BOE retreats. I understand the critical relationship between administration and the Board.
I was a member of the Education Committee for five years working collaboratively with School Board members, City Alders and County Board Supervisors to address issues impacting youth and our schools.
I also bring over 15 years of working in community-based organizations that served children, youth and families in the greater Madison area.
