PRIORITIES FOR OUR SCHOOLS

When I worked at MMSD,  I held monthly parent meetings, engaged with the community and led professional learning for staff. In my current role with National Equity Project I support and coach school district teams to collaborate together and to address issues that their students of color are experiencing. I will bring my facilitator and collaborator skill set to the seat.

Teacher and Staff Resources

I am deeply concerned about the lasting impact of staffing shortages on the morale of our educators. Our Madison schools are also experiencing the strain of being under-staffed. This has a profound impact on our students and on the staff who are working daily. I want to focus on the resources we’re using to support staff and students.

Community Engagement

I care deeply about how we engage with our community. I feel like this is a key strength I bring. I spent six years at MMSD working hard to engage with families and bringing youth to the table so that we could hear the issues. It’s important to have transparency in our decisions.

Equitable Education

I believe in equity for our schools. I want to see our District create opportunities so that every student, regardless of their identity or background, can discover the best in themselves, and find a variety of paths that will help them pursue their dreams and aspirations. I want to see the results of the equity audit and monitor the results from budget investments for our Black, Indigenous and students of Color.

Safe Learning Environment

I want to make sure we’re committed to safe and equitable learning environments so that our  students and staff can thrive. These are not easy times in our public schools. I care about the resources we are investing to help nurture a sense of belonging, wellbeing, physical, psychological and emotional safety.

2020 Referendum

The Madison community voted for the largest referendum in history in November 2020. I want to ensure the district delivers on its commitments and that we have transparency about our progress; I know our community deserves that. Our schools need to remain a strong and viable option for all Madison families.

Restorative Justice

We have made a commitment to implement restorative justice as an approach to build community and reconcile conflict and harm in our schools. I want to see that implemented with the appropriate resources.
